Teaching Meditation
Yoga is more than making shapes. Meditation, an important component of yoga, can help us develop focus, patience, compassion and clarity as we notice the fluctuations of our minds. Just as a physical yoga practice may help the body become stronger and more limber, with meditation, the mind becomes focused yet more expansive. Instruction will focus on learning to teach a variety of meditation techniques including yang (focused) and yin (receptive) approaches to meditation for Yoga Alliance CEUs. However, class is open to everyone including practitioners who want to build their meditation practice.
-
Adapting Asana
Our bodies are all unique so the yoga asana (postures) we practice cannot be universal. As teachers, we have a responsibility to provide safe options that allow our students to practice regardless of body types and abilities. Learn how to adapt at least 10 common asana shapes and sequences for a variety of bodies and abilities using the chair, wall, and other props. Instruction is geared toward practicing teachers who want to make their classes or private lessons more accessible, but all practitioners are welcome to join.
-
Holiday Season Support
The holiday season can be a joyful time, but it can also be hectic and challenging. Slower, contemplative practices can provide much needed refuge amidst the chaos of the season. Class will include Yin Yoga, meditation, and self-massage/acupressure to support balance in the mind, body, and spirit. Yin Yoga is a meditative style of yoga in which yoga shapes are gently held for several minutes, often supported by props or the floor. Trauma-informed teaching emphasizes personal choice throughout the entire practice.
